Major postal reform legislation to address the financial and structural woes of the US Postal Service is pending now in Congress. The US Senate has done its part by passing a bill (S. 1789), but postal reform cannot become law until the US House of Representatives acts on its legislation (H.R. 2309). A bill is ready to go, but election-year politics put a huge road block in the way of progress. With less than two weeks on the legislative calendar prior to the election and with a very uncertain lame duck legislative schedule for the end of the year, it’s absolutely critical that the printing and graphic communications industry makes a huge grassroots push to urge individual US Representatives to Pass Postal Reform Now!
The month of August is a crucial time to reach out to lawmakers and staff while they are “back home.” That’s why Printing Industries of America is launching a multi-level summer campaign to tell Congress that “Postal Reform = Jobs.” The goal of the campaign is to urge the House to bring H.R. 2309 to a vote on the floor as soon as possible when they get back to Washington in September.
